Facilities Master Plans

Updated Facilities Master Plan

The most recent Facilities Master Plan was a SUNY-wide effort that provided a roadmap for campus facility growth and change for the period of 2013-2023. Its purpose was to target capital investments to advance the strategic academic mission through the realization of three main goals: renewing campus facilities; strengthening the quality of the campus experience; and engaging the communities around the campus.  The university successfully accomplished its priority projects in this facility master plan.

In the near future, the university will embark on developing a new facilities master plan.

Facilities Master Plan 2013-2023

In 2008 the State University Construction Fund began a SUNY-wide effort to develop a Facilities Master Plan (FMP) for all of its university centers and comprehensive colleges. The FMP effort at Buffalo State, which began in June 2009 and concluded in October 2010, has provided a roadmap for campus facilities growth and change for the period 2013 to 2023. Its purpose is to target capital investments to advance the strategic academic mission through the realization of three main goals:

  • Renewing campus facilities
  • Strengthening the quality of the campus experience
  • Engaging the communities around the campus

Campus planners have addressed key site and facility needs identified through master plan assessments:

  • Renovation and upgrade of 14 campus buildings
  • Construction of additional campus life space, as well as business and community engagement space
  • Construction of a new athletic stadium
  • Provision of structured parking
  • Construction of a campus operations center
  • Power plant replacement
  • Infrastructure, circulation, and landscape improvements

The Executive Summary provides an overview of the master plan process and the planners' final recommendations to Buffalo State.

Housing Master Plan

To expand upon the scope of the Facilities Master Plan, Buffalo State completed a Housing Master Plan in 2015 and an updated demand study in 2019. With demand for student housing in flux, the Housing Master Plan helped the campus to strategically plan for student housing capital investment. The campus is currently undertaking a new study to better inform residential needs for our current and future occupancy, while aligning with the strategic goals of the campus and critical maintenance needs.
